Why we think Lebron James is a Type 3

  • Demeanor. Lebron shows up as confident, authoritative, poised, and in control. As one of the greatest basketball players of all time, his on-court presence is commanding and inspiring.

  • Ambition and drive for success. Lebron was determined to be the best player in the world from a young age.  When Lebron was in 8th grade, he took long bus rides by himself to play in various AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) games and tournaments. This extra effort and commitment allowed him to sharpen his skills and showcase his talent, which led to him to be one of the best high school players in the US even before he started high school. He was the first high school basketball player to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Professionally, he has achieved multiple NBA championships, MVP awards, and Olympic gold medals.

  • "The Decision." In 2010, Lebron made a highly publicized announcement about his decision to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers and join the Miami Heat, where he later won two championships. This event demonstrates his focus on success and desire for recognition. It was perceived by many as a publicity stunt and attention-seeking.

  • Adaptable image. Lebron has crafted a strong public image, carefully managing his brand both on and off the court. He has diversified his interests, investing in businesses and philanthropy, and positioning himself as a role model for millions of fans around the world.

  • Drive for success off the court. He has been successful in various ventures, including his production company, SpringHill Entertainment, and his investment in Blaze Pizza, showcasing his entrepreneurial mindset.

  • Social media usage and marketing savvy. Lebron popularized "Taco Tuesday" on his Instagram stories, enthusiastically celebrating the tradition with his family. Fans found his enthusiasm contagious, and it became an ongoing theme that helped Lebron maintain his image and connect with his fans.

  • Competitiveness. Lebron has had occasional on-court altercations with other players, showcasing competitiveness that can come out in unhealthy ways. For instance, in 2014, he had a heated exchange with Joakim Noah of the Chicago Bulls, which led to technical fouls for both players.

  • Criticism of referees. There have been instances where Lebron has publicly criticized referees or expressed frustration about their decisions. This suggests an intense focus on winning and an inability to accept perceived unfairness or mistakes.

  • Pre-game rituals. Lebron is known for his elaborate pre-game rituals, including his famous chalk toss, where he throws chalk into the air before games. While these rituals may be personal and serve to mentally prepare him for the game, they also uncoincidentally draw the attention of fans and the media.

  • Fashion choices. Lebron has made notable fashion statements throughout his career, such as his unique eyewear during post-game interviews or his choice of bold outfits at events like the NBA All-Star Game. These fashion choices can be seen as a way to stand out and attract attention (this is also indicative of his 4 Wing).
