Why we think Dolly Parton is a Type 3
Focus on achievement. She thinks and speaks a lot about opportunities and has a vision for how to be more successful.
Drive. She has an unstoppable drive and determination. She speaks as if nothing will get her down.
Productivity. She is efficient and prolific. Working from the wee hours of the morning, she’s composed over 3000 songs, sold more than 100 million records, and garnered close to 200 awards.
Go-getter. She has a strong sense that she will fulfill her dreams, and an “I'll show you” attitude.
Image-consciousness. She appears self-assured. Her talk is highly polished and is masterful in choreographing an image she wants to project.
Attention-seeking from an early age. She has said that she always wanted to be a star. As a child, she imagined her backyard chickens as her cheering audience. She appears to desire attention and will often go to great lengths in order to get it.
Personal branding. She speaks about loving the business side of things and spends a lot of energy promoting her brand.
Ability to attract admiration. She appears to know how to charm and make people love and admire her, which contributes to her ability to be successful.
Strategic. She is very strategic in gaining popularity and reaching a greater audience. In response to criticism about the move from country music to pop, she said: “it got me where I wanted to be.”
Image-conscious. She presents as self-conscious and says things like "I know what I'm doing" in crafting her image.
Basking in the glory of good deeds. She talks a lot about giving back and helping her employees. It also feels like she enjoys the credit for that.
Seeking out freedom. She often talks about wanting freedom in relationships (which makes us confident she is not a 2).
Dolly Parton quotes that show she is a Type 3

“You're just a step on the boss man's ladder. But you got dreams he'll never take away.”
“After you reach a certain age, they think you’re over. Well, I will never be over. I’ll be making records if I have to sell them out of the trunk of my car. I’ve done that in my past, and I’d do it again.”
“Storms make trees take deeper roots.”
“You need to really believe in what you've got to offer, what your talent is — and if you believe, that gives you strength.”
“I don’t kiss nobody’s butt.”

“The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.”
