MORNING ROUNDS

How to Make the Most of Our Most Important Practice

Weekly Japa Meditation with the Upbuild Community
Every Tuesday 9:30-9:50am ET (online)

Like a doctor makes their rounds to help heal patients, we also need to make the time to heal our souls by bathing in spiritual sound. This has the effect of not only setting the tone for our day, but cumulatively, setting the tone for our life. The inspiration for this offering is to invite sincere aspiring spiritual practitioners into our own personal practice of japa meditation and to create a powerful force of community around it. Sanga makes all the difference.

When we’re surrounded by the right people for the right purpose, things take off. Spiritually speaking, there’s actually nothing more important. To live the life of the soul more and more, we need consistent, daily practice. Left to our own devices, it’s nearly impossible to sustain.

Krsna says that sacrifice to God is the purpose of life in the third chapter of the Gita. Then He drives home most poignantly that of all sacrifices:

“I am japa – the chanting of the holy names.” -BG 10.25

And Arjuna confirms shortly after from his own realization of walking the spiritual path: “O master of the senses, the world becomes joyful upon hearing Your name, and thus everyone becomes attached to You!” -BG 11.36

So we’ll together practice this japa meditation on Krsna’s Holy Names of the mahamantra as the highest recommendation from God Himself and the most transformative thing we know. It has been a dream of ours to open up our own personal practice of japa to the community and to advance together strongly in this way. We’re so excited to be doing this with you!

Format:

It will be very informal focused exclusively on the chanting, so we won’t have interaction but rather a time for each of us to just be present to our own divine relationship. We’ll share a few minutes of fresh inspiration or reading promptly at 9:30 a.m. ET to guide us into our meditation on the mantra. Then we’ll chant one round at our own pace of 108 times the mahamantra. If you have sacred beads to chant on, one mantra per bead, that will only help, but it’s not a requirement at all for this time together. You can find beads here. The mantra is:

Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

People will finish at different times and that is welcome. We’ll offer a couple of minutes in silence to absorb the sacred sound vibration. Then at about 9:50 a.m. ET, we’ll carry that grace out with us into our day.
