Countries and Cultures That Reflect Enneagram Types

Switzerland: Enneagram Type 1 Culture

Why we think Switzerland is a Type 1 culture

  • "Swiss Made." This label is not just a mark of origin but also a seal of quality, reflecting commitment to excellence and integrity in craftsmanship.

  • Precision and perfection. Swiss watches are renowned worldwide for their incredible accuracy and meticulousness in their design.

  • Rule of Law. Switzerland's strong adherence to the rule of law and its efficient legal system align with the emphasis on structure and justice. The country takes a comprehensive approach to combating corruption through stringent laws, active enforcement, international cooperation, and a culture of transparency and accountability. Switzerland consistently scores at the top on global indices for transparency and low corruption.

  • Honesty and safety. Harvard Law Grad, and former naval pilot, Jim Thurber says: "When I lived in Switzerland it was perhaps the most honest place imaginable. Nothing was ever stolen. We never locked anything. I asked a Swiss farmer one day why this was. He looked at me quizzically and said, “Why would I be interested in something that does not belong to me?” What a great philosophy."

  • Cleanliness and environment. The country is known for its clean cities and commitment to environmental preservation, showcasing the values of purity and improvement. You rarely find litter, even in the big cities.

  • Discipline and reliability. Swiss trains, buses, and trams are famously punctual, with schedules meticulously planned and adhered to. The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) consistently reports an on-time performance rate that is among the highest in the world.

  • Relationship with guns. It's said that no one can invade Switzerland because most families hold guns and military service is required by all men. Everyone is systematically trained and ready to stand up to an unjust invader. They remain neutral to protect themselves (which also may aid them to not be corrupted by different interests), but they're all ready to fight for what's right in their own survival. After military service, civilians get to keep their high-grade military weapons.

  • Environmental policies. Swiss commitment to discipline is also visible in its approach to environmental conservation and sustainability. Switzerland has stringent recycling and waste management laws that are rigorously followed. The country’s emphasis on sustainability can be seen in its extensive and efficient recycling programs and its public campaigns encouraging personal responsibility for environmental stewardship.
